Silver onion watch, domed plain silver case, chased and enameled silver dial, hours in Roman numerals, graduated in Arabic numerals for each 5-minute period, finely chased and signed SAMSON, mechanism held by balusters, finely chased cock and plate, plate signed Samson, London, 12112. Outer silver case worked with repoussé of a scene depicting a knight and his horse next to a man holding a purse in an architectural setting. Master clockmaker J. Samson, (1760-1796) England, second half of the 18th century - English hallmark with lion passant inside the case. PB : 92.77 g D (watch): 40 mm, well preserved. D (with case): 51 mm Comparison: a similar model in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, donated by Joseph W. Drexel in 1889 89.2.90a, b, dated 1759. Jewelry is not stored at the store.
