Alexis Alexeievich HARLAMOFF (Dyachevka, 1840-Paris, 1925). - Lot 70
Alexis Alexeievich HARLAMOFF (Dyachevka, 1840-Paris, 1925). Portrait of a Woman in Profile from the Left. Oil on canvas, signed lower right "A. Harlamoff". Framed. H. 49.5 x W. 38.5 cm. Provenance Narychkin family. Ivan Nikolaïevitch Harlamoff (1840-1925) was a Russian painter trained at the Imperial Academy in Saint Petersburg. He then moved to Paris, where he made his career. He specialized in portraits of young girls and children. These subjects corresponded to a 19th-century ideal of gentleness and purity. His style is realistic, with great attention to faces and materials. His works often feature calm, melancholy expressions. He was commissioned by wealthy families in Russia and Europe. He thus frequented circles close to the aristocracy. This delicate portrait most certainly illustrates a member of the Narychkin family at the end of the 19th century. This work has remained in the same family since its creation, and is a previously unpublished work by the artist, rediscovered on the occasion of this sale.
