1840-1841, 3 volumes in 2 in-4 bound in half-cornered chagrin, spine ribbed with gilt fillets, gilt edges.
First edition of this collection of short stories originally published in 88 weekly issues under the same title, edited by the author from April 1840 to December 1841. Each volume is illustrated with a frontispiece, and the set contains nearly 200 in-text illustrations by George Cattermole and Hablot Knight Browne.
In this copy, the title page of volume II and the frontispiece are misplaced, but not missing; the inner margins of the first 2 leaves of volume I are roughly repaired.
