Recipe for betel quid: This was used to add lime powder. The powder was poured onto a betel leaf and an areca nut, and the consumer chewed the mixture. This tradition is common in Southeast Asia. The effects are comparable to nicotine for their stimulating, anorectic and slightly euphoric effects. Highly addictive, this chew also had an appetite-suppressant effect.
