Pablo PICASSO (1881 - 1973) - Lot 436
Pablo PICASSO (1881 - 1973) Flower, 1961 Pen drawing on torn paper Signed "Picasso" at the top (partly pasted onto a photograph of the recipient of the drawing, holding a horse) 8 x 7 cm A certificate from the Comité Picasso dated March 12 2025 will be given to the buyer. Provenance: given to Mademoiselle A.D one Christmas evening 1961 or 1962 by the artist The current owner testifies about this drawing: "While tidying up my library, I found a book on La Vérité sur Jacqueline et Pablo Picasso, by Pépita Dupont, which she had dedicated to me in September 2018, no doubt at the time of a signing in Paris. Reading this book, I realize that when I was invited to the Picasso home, given the dates, it was in California. My parents had an apartment on California Hill, above the old funicular railway. I remember the whole area very well, and the Picassos' villa was above Le Cannet, above the boulevard Carnot exit, above the freeway entrance. [...] Cathy, whom I hadn't known very long, had been kind enough to invite me to California. Jacqueline was kind enough to welcome me. No doubt alerted by her daughter, Jacqueline came with Picasso to bring me presents at Christmas time, at the Cours Mainrenon, where I was being punished during the vacations. No doubt I hadn't done my work properly. When I put my drawing with my story up for sale, what I retain is what an adolescent girl experienced and retained from a beautiful story that, at the time, brought sunshine into her life".
