NOT PRESENT - AWAITING QUOTATIONS - Lot 333
NOT PRESENT - AWAITING QUOTATIONS CHINA - 1760-1850 Cylindrical snuff-bottle in ivory carved with the eight horses of King Mu in a landscape Red coral stopper (corallium rubrum) H. 8 cm Weight : 46,60 g Note: - China has a long tradition of ivory carving. Initially appreciated by the court, these objects were manufactured for export from the 19th century onwards. They are meticulously carved and illustrate major themes in the Chinese decorative repertoire. Easy to carve, ivory can be used to make small utilitarian objects such as the one shown here. Provenance : - Jutheau sale, April 19, 1991, lot 140 and reproduced in the catalog. Note: - "By an abuse of language, it is mentioned that the sale of June 10 was "under the aegis of Viviane Jutheau" whereas it is a tribute to Viviane Jutheau. All the snuffboxes presented under n- 251 to 392 (with the exception of n-342, as indicated in the catalog) were acquired at sales organized by Me Jutheau. We have not been able to trace the provenance of lots 365, 392 and 336. All the snuffboxes come from the collection of a single Parisian connoisseur. " Please ask for condition reports before the sale: they are not included in the listings. Expert : Cabinet Portier Alice Jossaume contact@cabinetportier.com +33 (0)1 48 00 03 41 Please note that this lot contains coral, a protected species. Aponem is unable to assist buyers with the export and transport of lots containing protected species outside France. The buyer's inability to export or import these lots does not justify late payment or cancellation of the sale. - Please note that all the snuff bottles have been measured without the stopper (only the body)/Veuillez noter que les tabatières ont été mesurées sans les bouchons (juste le corps de la tabatière).
