Red-figured bell-shaped krater - Lot 30
Red-figured bell-shaped krater decorated on side A with a nude young ephebe walking to the left, head turned backwards, holding a thyrse and draped over his arm, followed by a standing maenad, dressed in a chiton and wearing a sakkos, holding an offering plate and a thyrse. Side B features three ephebes in conversation, draped in their himation on either side of a central stele. The area below the flared rim is painted with a frieze of olive leaves. The area below the handles is decorated with elegant palmettes. Black-glazed beige clay with white paint highlights. Greek art, Apulia, circa 340 B.C. H. 30.8 cm.
