Attributed to Jean François SABLET (Morges... - Lot 103 - Aponem
Attributed to Jean François SABLET (Morges 1745 - Nantes 1819) Consular celebration of 18 brumaire year X (November 9, 1801) Paper mounted on canvas Without frame Height : 60 cm Width : 84 cm Bears a signature at the bottom left : " L.Boilly ". The celebration of the 18th Brumaire of the year X was given in honor of the beginning of the peace treaty with England (the Peace of Amiens). It gave place to several illuminations of bridges (Concorde bridge and Royal bridge) and especially to the construction of a big theater placed between the horses of Marly (we see it on the left) at the beginning of the perspective of the Champs-Elysées. The Crillon Hotel can be seen in the background on the right. These buildings are represented on the "Vue du grand théâtre élevé sur la place de la Concorde pour la fête de la Paix, le 18 brumaire, an X (9 novembre 1801)" (View of the great theater erected on the Place de la Concorde for the celebration of the Peace, 18 brumaire, year X (November 9, 1801)) by Jean-Baptiste Cazin, preserved in the Carnavalet museum (inventory number: P25). This event could also be compared to the "Fête pour la Paix Générale given in Paris on 18 Brumaire. Pont et Place de la Concorde en 1801?1802", by Francesco Piranesi (circa 1758-1810), kept at the Metropolitan Museum of New-York (inventory 2014.146.2).
