Louis Ernest BARRIAS (1841-1905) Young Girl from Bou Saâda Very beautiful chryselephantine proof in bronze with double brown and gold patina and ivory face, after the original plaster of 1886/1887. Turquoise beads set on the ties of the dress near the neck. Signed on the base on the left: E. Barrias Mark of the publisher : Susse Frères Editeurs on the right base and stamp of the founder at the back Crack at the level of the nose on the ivory Height : 18 cm (a CIC certificate will be delivered to the buyer) The painter Gustave Guillaumet had ordered this sculpture in its entirety to the artist to decorate his tombstone. It can be seen at the Montmartre cemetery (entrance at the end of Avenue Rachel in Paris) This work, along with "La nature se dévoilant devant la science" (Nature Unveiling Itself Before Science), is one of Barrias' most important works for which he received numerous awards.
