REGENCE] A rosewood veneered LOUIS XIV COMMODE opening with five drawers on four rows, rounded uprights, rich ornamentation of gilded bronzes, red veined marble top, Regency period, stamped FM for François Mondon. 85 x 62x 128 cm (with the marble) François Mondon (1694-1770), a Parisian cabinetmaker based on the rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, was a great specialist of Regency commodes, most of which are "en tombeau" commodes. The choice to affix only his initials FM on our chest of drawers can be explained by the fact that at the time of the manufacture of the chest of drawers the stamp was not obligatory, it is only in 1743 following the promulgation of the corporations that the cabinetmakers are in the obligation to stamp their furniture.
